Applications for apprenticeship in REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING MECHANICAL SERVICE are available in our office and on our website at www.pipetradestraining.org starting January 2nd, 2018.

You cannot hand in your completed application until February 26th, 2018.

 

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE FOLLOWING DATES AND TIMES AT THE TRAINING CENTER OFFICE:

o February 26th, 27th, 28th, March 1st, 2nd (Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 6:00pm)

o March 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th (Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 6:00pm)

Applications will be accepted ONLY for apprenticeship in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanical Service. The application will not be transferrable to the Plumbing or Steamfitting-Pipefitting apprenticeships.  Individuals submitting an application at this time will still have to apply again in order to become eligible to take the test for the Plumbing or Steamfitting-Pipefitting apprenticeships.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON BY THE APPLICANT WITH THE FOLLOWING:

1) Your high school diploma, or GED and

2) Valid Driver's License or Identification Card issued by the D.M.V.

3) All records must be presented in English

*Diploma's will be verified; online Diploma's will not be accepted*

 

LENGTH OF APPRENTICESHIP: The length of apprenticeship for this trade is five (5) years of on-the-job training which includes five (5) years of night school.  Apprentices work during the day and attend classes two nights per week.  Earn while you learn and tuition is free!  A journeyman certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time and place to report for the Entrance Examination.

The Entrance Examination is scheduled as follows:

Date: Saturday, April 7th, 2018

Time: To Be Determined

Place: Pipe Trades Training Center

No individual will be allowed to take the Entrance Exam more than three (3) times.

DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION

REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING MECHANICAL SERVICE:

The Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Service Mechanic is responsible for the service, repair, installation, and retrofit of all types of refrigeration equipment, from the smallest air conditioning systems to the air conditioning and refrigeration units used in hospitals, skyscrapers, research and development laboratories, supermarkets and other complex installations.

The selection of apprentices will be made on the basis of qualifications alone, without regard to religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, or military and veteran status of the person discriminated against.

    HOURLY WAGE RATE: Starting wage is 41% of Journeyman wage rate

    CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRADE:

    Apprentices will be required to be in possession of a valid Driver's License and maintain a safe driving record.  Apprentices shall be under constant supervision of a qualified journeyman at all times.  The trade requires physical effort on the part of the apprentice to do climbing, crawling, pulling, lifting, crouching and working in cramped quarters.  Mechanical ability and finger dexterity are very essential.  Depending on the job, work may be performed either indoors or outdoors with the major portion of the work outdoors in semi-sheltered or unfinished buildings or in deep ditches and on high scaffolds.

    *SEASONAL WORK SUBJECT TO WEATHER AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS*

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    1. AGE:  Must be at least 17 years of age to apply.  Qualified applicants who are 17 years old may take the exam but will not be dispatched until they reach their 18th birthday.
    2. EDUCATION:  Must be a high school graduate or hold a High School Proficiency Certificate or have an acceptable GED Certificate or college diploma.  Online diplomas are not accepted.
    3. PHYSICAL:  Applicant must be of such physical condition as not to place themselves or their future coworker in jeopardy.  No physical examination is required.  However, applicant must be able to perform the physical requirements of the trade.
    4. OTHER:  Applicant may be required to pass a drug/alcohol test prior to being dispatched to an employer.
